IPE DECKING

Ipe is a hardwood that is naturally resistant to rot and decay, is over 6 times harder than Western Red Cedar, and has a life expectancy of 20 years or more without preservative treatment.  Compare the available decking woods. By any measure (hardness, strength, durability, appearance), Ipe is the superior decking material.

Most decking materials look attractive when first installed but the true measure of a quality decking material is how long it retains its appeal.  A wood's density determines its durability. Ipe is twice as dense as other wood species and up to five times harder.  An Ipe deck will look good for a long, long time (even without staining or preservatives).  All woods change color over time.  The rich warm hues of Ipe will gradually mellow to a soft gray after a time of exposure to the elements.
